What I Can Do for You

I offer to sit with you in the dark,
wait for the sun to break the day.

I offer to play ball with you
while I’m still standing.

I offer to call you just to say hi,
even if nothing new to chat.

I remember there were times
I couldn't do anything for you,
because I was beaten,
grappling to crawl back.

I promise to give you a hand,

on your side

when you fail and fall

and struggle to stand up.

I offer not to repeat all my regrets.
In the stormy night,
walk in the drench to wash away
all the contrition.

I offer my prayer.
Listen to any wrongs
you made or suffered;
sorrow, guilt, lament,
hurt and wound.

I offer to walk with you.
Watch the sunset,

reflect and recollect
under the dusky sky
into the nightfall.
